A power station, also referred to as a power plant, is an industrial facility for the generation of electric power. Most power stations contain one or more generators, a rotating machine that converts mechanical power into electrical power. The relative motion between a magnetic field and a conductor creates an electrical current. The energy source used to turn the generator / turbines varies widely. Most power plants in the world burn fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas to generate electricity. Some others use nuclear power, but there is an increasing awareness to the use of cleaner renewable sources such as solar, wind, wave and hydroelectric.
Situation
Ingress of air borne contaminants such as dust, sand, alkali, metal salts, acid gases etc. in to the rotating turbo machinery can cause severe damages by erosion, fouling, cooling air passage blocking and hot corrosion of the turbine section components. Further, most of power plants are to be operated with most minimal downtime possible to avoid huge monetary losses. Also, clean & conditioned air plays a vital role in increasing the overall efficiency of systems.
