What is Formaldehyde?

Formaldehyde is a naturally occurring organic compound with the formula CH2O. The pure compound is a
pungent-smelling colourless gas that polymerises spontaneously into paraformaldehyde. When formaldehyde is
present in the air at levels exceeding 0.1 ppm, by breathing the fumes of formaldehyde some individuals may
experience adverse effects such as watery eyes; burning sensations in the eyes, nose, and throat; coughing;
wheezing; nausea; and skin irritation. Formaldehyde Poisoning is a disorder, this can occur while working directly
with formaldehyde, using equipment cleaned with formaldehyde or products which emits formaldehyde.
